APN participated in the Hasbani-Wazzani River Conference organized by the Consultative Center for Studies and Documentation, held in Beirut, Lebanon (July 24, 2019).

The conference discussed Lebanon's rights to the Hasbani-Wazzani waters as a tributary of the Jordan River and part of its basin.

It also tackled the issues of conflict with Israel, developmental delays, environmental problems and climate change. It was indicated that Lebanon's approved share of Wazzani water is less than Lebanon's fair share and does not meet the needs of the population and their development requirements.

During the conference, Hassan Al Jaajaa, Co-founder of APN, called for the need to preserve the environment and protect the water from pollution.

He also proposed the establishment of an experimental agricultural station for the cultivation of fruit-bearing trees and raising animals and fish to make maximum use of Lebanon's ground and surface water.

Taking into account the regional context, Hassan recommended the importance of coming up with research-driven results and economic feasibility studies to encourage the private sector to invest in agricultural projects in the region.

He suggested establishing agricultural cooperatives as well as networking with civil society and official research institutions in the Ministry of Agriculture and Lebanese universities to improve the agricultural sector.

Finally, APN concluded by calling for the accountability of anyone who causes any environmental pollution in the region on the basis of the "polluter pays" law.

The two-day conference, which hosted thirty researchers, specialists, and representatives of official and private institutions, aspires to protect the geographic rights of Lebanon along with all of its natural resources and establish these rights independently.

Speakers at the conference included the Lebanese Minister of Economy (Mansour Btaish), Director General of the South Lebanon Water Foundation (Wassim Daher), President of the Regional Center for Water and Environment (Wajdi Najm), Eng. Ricardo Petrella, Professor of Economics and Water at the University of Mumbai (Nilufer Bagawat).
