APN participated in the ESCWA conference held in Amman, Jordan (29-30 July 2019). It discussed ways to enhance regional cooperation in the spread of green technology.

The meeting titled: "Transfer and adaptation of green technology and investment needed to implement target 12 of the Sustainable Development Goals: Sustainable Consumption and Production” was held by ESCWA in cooperation with the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO) and the Climate Technology Center and Network (CTCN).

Hassan Al Jaajaa, co-founder of APN, praised the ESCWA meeting and pointed out the importance of this opportunity to partner with community-based institutions working in the agricultural sector to network, exchange experiences, and open future horizons. He also emphasized the role of modern global technology in the development of agriculture and food production techniques, but added: “At the same time, we must benefit from our culture and the accumulated experience in the region”.

Jaajaa recommended the strengthening of what is known as the “Hima” in the Islamic society. It is based on the fact that humans are a part of the environment that coexists naturally.

The interaction between humans and environmental components such as soil, water and trees should be balanced and sustainable. He also warned against the over-reliance on technology without assessing the context-specific options.

This warning was in response to the companies that seek to increase profits by incorporating technological advancements in the region with disregard to its priorities. Experts attending the meeting discussed solid waste management resulting from wars and conflicts in the Arab region.

Other discussions facilitated the exchange of experiences among Arab countries on green technologies available to the agricultural sector.
