APN was represented by the Chairperson of the board of directors Razan Zuayter, in the event of signing the “Statement of the initiative for the elimination of hunger in the Arab region” which emphasized the necessity of rapid and expeditious tackling of the new food security challenges in the Arab region. His Excellency the secretary general of the Arab League participated in the event in addition to a number of Arab international organizations.

 

The significance of this statement lies in its being a response to the demands submitted by APN over the years in cooperation with its partners who believe in the cause of achieving food sovereignty and the importance of Arab food security and its relation to conflict, wars and protracted crises, which is something that international organizations have ignored in their dealings with our region.

 

Zuayter valued the interest of the secretary general of the Arab League, Mr. Ahmad Abu Al-Ghayt in the outputs of the Initiative for the Elimination of Poverty in the Arab region, which were crystalized in the wake of numerous meetings effectively attended by APN and its partners. Moreover, Zuayter alluded to the importance of this statement given that for the first time the free and strong role of the civil society organizations is established as partners in laying down strategies and work mechanisms within the frameworks emanating from the Arab League.
