The Arab Group for the Protection of Nature, represented by its Chairperson of the Scientific Committee Hassan Al Jaajaa, participated in the consultative meeting, which brought together several environmental organizations at the invitation of the Union of Environmental Associations, and in the presence of representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Environment, to discuss the draft modernization of climate change policy in Jordan (September 14, 2021).

Al Jaajaa provided a sample of APN’s work and its contribution and impact on both greening, and the increase in oxygen ratios through continuous afforestation. He also presented the partnership with Amman International Film Festival, where The Arab Group for the Protection of Nature calculated the carbon footprint and estimated the carbon ratios resulting from the procedures needed for the purposes of establishing a festival, procedures such as movements by planes, cars, and others. After calculating carbon ratios, APN planted the equivalent of trees to compensate for carbon with oxygen ratios.

During his speech, he pointed out the serious consequences of arson by the Israeli entity for hundreds of agricultural dunums in the northern valleys. Which intensified the carbon dioxide emissions and killed trees that contribute to reducing these emissions. He also called for following up on the file of Jordanian farmers affected by these Israeli fires, and the serious pursuit of prosecuting the Israeli entity for its violations and force it to compensate the farmers.

Speaking of climate change, Al Jaajaa emphasized the need to stop any practices that increase pollution, stressing the importance of effective laws and regulations. He also warned that environmental legislation would remain lenient and would not act as a deterrent to citizens who committed environmental violations.
