Razan Zuayter, Chair of the Board at the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature, gave a speech on "How to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in their resistance against occupation and aggression through development and relief" during activities of the 5th Session of the Arab International Forum for Justice for Palestine. The session was organized by the Tunisian General Labor Union and the International Arab Centre for Communication and Solidarity (17 June 2021).

Zuayter indicated that support directed to Palestine has been mostly limited to charitable support and rarely towards the sustainable development goals. There is rarely relief and development support at the same time. She stressed that the path towards resilience requires a practical strategic framework that aspires to achieve the major goals in a sustainable manner.

She gave examples of integrated processes of strengthening resilience from activities of the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature implemented in Palestine as part of the Million Tree Program, which aims to coordinate relief and development efforts.

At the end of her speech, she presented several recommendations to develop short, medium, and long-term strategies for support in all sectors and to consolidate the idea of joint development and relief efforts.  She also warned against conditional international funding and recommended that these be replaced with unconditional Palestinian, Islamic and Arab funding. She also urged professional and specialized involvement in the international forums of the United Nations to carry out its critical role in development and relief in Palestine.
