Workshop on Food Insecurity in Protracted Crises in Preparation of the CFS 40th Session:

APN activist, Mariam Al Jaajaa, chaired the workshop within the annual forum of the CSM on food insecurity in crises, wars, and occupations. The workshop was held on the 5th of October at the FAO headquarters and the goal was to unite the voices of civil society in their demands for interventions so that they may be presented next week during the 40th Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS  40th).

The workshop was attended by civil society organizations from Asia, Africa, Latin America, the United States, and Europe.

Al Jaajaa said that the civil society working group succeeded in pushing this issue to the forefront of the CFS priorities, in addition to a major impact on the content of the draft Agenda for Action that has been prepared recently.

She added that "the goal of the agenda should be to find solutions that support local sustainable food production systems that are determined by the affected communities, rather than short-term interventions that generate dependency and threaten food security and sovereignty.”
