APN’s co-founder Razan Zuaiter was invited to the Regional Consultative Meeting on Environment and Natural Resources held on February 27-28, 2019 at the Arab League in Cairo. She presented a working paper at its fourth session on ways to limit the negative impact of conflicts on the environment.
The meeting, organized by the Arab league and ESCWA, is meant to help prepare the regional messages to be transmitted to the UN High Level Political Forum in New York.
In her intervention Zuayter stressed on the importance of stopping bloodshed in the region as it is one of the main causes of hunger and poverty, and to focus on sustainable relief development programs rather than short term humanitarian assistance. She also spoke about the importance of supporting local food production systems to building resilience.
