APN participated in a meeting about the Naql el Bahrain project at the Red Sea that was held on the 3rd of January in 2014 in the Chamber of Commerce building.

It was organized by of the Friends of the Environment and the Union of Jordanian Environmental Associations.

Ms. Mason Zoubi, former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation spoke in support of the project while Dr. Basil Burgan, president of the Friends of the Environment of Jordan spoke against it.

The session was moderated by Engineer Rauf Dabbas of the Union of Jordanian Environmental Associations.

Representatives from APN inquired about the possibility of building a wastewater treatment plant in Aqaba as an alternative to the proposed Naql el Bahrain project.

They said that the project will have implications on local  sovereignty, so it is important to involve local institutions from universities and research centers in the preparation of the study for the project.
