Experts Discussing Food Crisis in Jordan and the Region

On the sidelines of the 9th Land Forum, which was held in Jordan, the Arab Group for the Protection of the Nature (APN), represented by Eng. Razan Zuayter and some of the board members, Invited a group of experts among of which, her excellence Haifa'a Al-Najjar minister of Culture to a dialogue session, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to food, Professor at the University of Oregon College of Law, Dr. Michael Fakhry, and the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Jordan. FAO” Eng. Nabil Al-Assaf, in the presence of Eng. Talal Al-Fayez, Spokesperson for UN Habitat - Umbretta Tempera, Coordinator of the Indigenous Peoples Movement for Self-Determination and Liberation IPMSDL - Beverly Longid, Senior Human Rights Adviser to the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator - Christina Meneke, In addition to representatives of the agricultural grass-roots organizations in Jordan and Palestine, and a team of volunteers and administrative staff.

It is worthy to mention that APN, since its establishment nearly 19 years ago, has been alerting the growing food crisis in Jordan and the region, and has always called for adopting the approach of food sovereignty to achieve food security and sovereignty over independent political and sovereign decision.

The attendees agreed on the necessity of discussing the root causes of the food crisis, especially in light of the challenges imposed by the Ukrainian war on the future of food in the region and the world.
