"We must move from analysis to impact to achieve the justice that Palestine and its communities deserve", said Razan Zuayter, APN Chairperson, in her speech at the Environmental Justice for Palestine conference held on 10 December 2024, for two days. The conference brought together a select group of experts and activists in the fields of environmental justice and human rights.

Zuayter emphasized the importance of collective action to address the environmental injustice caused by the Israeli occupation, stressing the need for comprehensive justice for both Palestine and the entire region.

She outlined key areas to achieve environmental justice, including evaluation and analysis, green resistance, and influencing policies. She praised the efforts of documentation and awareness campaigns that have contributed to raising the Palestinian voice on international platforms, highlighting the success of the formation of the International Working Group on Conflict in 2004 and the launch of numerous campaigns to expose the environmental destruction caused by the occupation.

Zuayter also spotlighted practical initiatives, such as the Million Tree Campaign, which has supported thousands of Palestinian farmers by planting millions of trees and rehabilitating agricultural lands.

In Gaza, she discussed efforts that contributed to the rehabilitation of hundreds of dunams of agricultural land, helping strengthen food security and boost the steadfastness of farmers.

She concluded her speech with key recommendations, including strengthening mechanisms to monitor and activate international resolutions, supporting legal efforts to recognize ecocide as an international crime, and intensifying cooperation between local and international environmental organizations to achieve food sovereignty and environmental justice.
