APN has concluded its Economic Empowerment and Enhancement of Food and Water Security Project in the Jordan Valley, implemented in cooperation with the International Islamic Charitable Organization – Kuwait. The project included a number of sustainable agricultural and development activities aimed at supporting local communities. It targeted 600 farming families across the northern, central, and southern Jordan Valley by providing them with 25,000 fruit trees, 5,000 kilograms of vegetable seeds, and extending 716,000 meters of irrigation networks across 375 dunums of farmland. It also involved the construction and rehabilitation of 80 agricultural ponds.
In the final phase of the project, APN distributed around 5,150 kilograms of molokhia (jute mallow) seeds to 175 farmers in the northern, central, and southern Jordan Valley to support the summer planting cycle and boost local production.
Additionally, 200 beehives were distributed to 25 beekeepers from various parts of the Jordan Valley, promoting honey production as a promising economic source for the benefiting families.
The project also included the installation of a solar-powered vegetable and fruit drying machine in Ghor es-Safi, as part of a strategy to reduce agricultural loss and convert it into added economic value. To ensure the sustainability of this intervention, 51 local women were trained, in cooperation with Ain Abata Women’s Association, on how to use the machine through both theoretical and practical workshops. The training aims to support them in establishing small-scale productive enterprises that generate additional income for their families.
