APN represented by its general manager Mariam Al Jaajaa attended the regional meeting to enhance food and water security in the Arab region, organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), which concluded its meetings on Nov.28th, 2019 in Amman.

Eighty participants attended the meetings including representatives of the governments of Arab countries, and delegates from specialized regional and international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Food Programme, and the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development.

During the fifth session, AL-Jaajaa gave an introductory presentation on the framework for food security and nutrition under protracted crises, a framework that follows the Committee on World Food Security in the Italian capital, Rome.  The discussion on it began in 2012. It consists of 11 principles on the triple nexus of humanitarian and development support and peace building.

It is noteworthy that the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature and the Arab Network for Food Sovereignty were within the steering and technical committee that helped in the formation of this framework. They led the international civil society in the negotiations that lasted three years, setting the priorities of the affected peoples in this framework.

The paper presented by AL-Jaajaa included a question on how to transform the framework presented on food security and nutrition in light of the protracted crises into a practical plan that draws the interaction of all parties working in this field.
