APN was invited to participate in the Arab Consultative Meeting on Accountability Framework for the Post-2015 Development Agenda, held in Tunisia between 15-16 of September 2014. The meeting was organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

The conference was attended by representatives from the public and private sectors and civil society who reviewed and discussed strategies and plans for sustainable development and implementation at the local, national, and global levels.

Farah Kaddoura, who represented APN, stressed for the need of civil society to be aware of their rights and their duty to determine the frameworks of accountability.

For example, they must not only work towards securing food in their respective countries; they must fight for the right to food security globally.  Civil Society must have good knowledge of their rights and a clear idea of their objectives when developing feedback and evaluating mechanisms. Kaddoura also stressed the need for accountability frameworks to be the results of shared efforts by participatory bodies that include the public and private sectors and civil society so that they are derived from the needs of the entire community. She spoke about the possibility of benefiting from external expertise while being cautious that accountability frameworks are not imposed by representatives from the U.S or Europe.

In her intervention, she pointed out to the need for coordination between various bodies of the United Nations when discussing the foundations of sustainable development and accountability to ensure the integrity of the work and goals of all parties without a conflict of strategies. Kaddoura raised questions about how statesshould practice the accountability frameworks outside their borders? She also asked how accountability frameworks can be applied in the absence of the state due to conflict and occupation?
