APN Launches a Campaign to Plant 1500 Trees in Tafila

(Amman - 21/04/2012) – APN organized a campaign where nearly 1500 trees were planted in the province of Tafila, in collaboration with Aramex and the Ministry of Social Development.

Around 100 volunteer of students in Philadelphia school and other schools in Tafila participated in this campaign, which aims at supporting food security by planting fruitful trees, supporting farmers in Tafilawho whom were affected by the frost during the winter, increasing green zones in the areas of the less fortunate in Jordan, fighting desertification and aridity, and spreading awareness about the importance of planting trees to protect their lands. The campaign also aims at increasing youth involvement in environmental issues, where APN provides the necessary tools in order to enable the volunteers in planting the targeted areas.

APN successfully planted trees throughout this campaign in the province of Tafila; specifically in the children’s park/garden in “Abu Bana”, and in another area belonging to “Bosaira” organization which covers nearly four acres, in addition to planting trees in the private farms which were destructed due to the frost that happened in the winter.

Engineer RazanZuaiter, President of the Arab for the Protection of Nature, said: "This project is a continuation of the effort to promote cooperation between various sectors in the process of protecting the natural resources. This campaign promoted a strong collaboration between the organizations of the civil society, the public sector and the private sector; which is conveyed in APN’s belief that the protection of the environment and nature is a collective effort which must be shared by all sectors."

This campaign is part of APN’s Green Caravan Initiative which began in 2003, where the caravan travels from one area to another, aiming at a greener Jordan, especially in the neglected areas. APN organized several afforestation campaigns over the past years which included areas such as Karak, Bireen, Rusaifeh, Der A’lla and more.
