KARAK, April 23, 2011 - The Arab Group for the Protection of Nature (APN) has organized a campaign to plant one thousand trees in a park in Al Sumakia in Karak.

The opening event was organized in collaboration with Tekia Um Ali, Shihan Municipality, Amman Al-Watanya Schools, and Sanabel for landscape engineering.

The objectives of the campaign are to increase green areas in underprivileged locations throughout Jordan, to fight against desertification and drought, to raise awareness among students about the importance of planting trees to protect the earth, as well as increasing youth involvement in environmental issues through the twinning of schools, where APN provides the necessary tools, mechanisms and trees for support.

This campaign falls within the Green Caravan, a program started by APN  in 2003, where the Caravan moves from one place to another, contributing to the ‘greening’ of Jordan, especially focusing on marginalized areas.Mrs. Razan Zuaiter, head of the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature, said: "Through this event, we are trying to coordinate several sectors in the process of protecting nature. In this event, we are cooperating with civil society organizations, the public sector, schools, and the private sector. We believe that nature conservation should be a cooperative effort across all sectors, and not only civil society organizations.”
