Immediately upon the announcement of the martyrdom of Shireen Abu Akleh, the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature (APN) launched an appeal to participate in the planting of fruit-bearing trees in memory of the martyr. We were surprised by the donation of 4000 trees within a few days, which will enable us to plant myriad lands in the governorates of Palestine. Donations continue to be incoming, made by the believers in this cause.

In fact the location of the martyrdom of the outstanding journalist martyr Shireen Abu Aqleh under the “tree of the journalists” at the gates of Jenin camp, made a significant impact on the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature (APN), particularly since the tree which represented an emblem and an aim of the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature (APN) since its establishment, shielded the colleague of the martyred, namely the journalist Shatha Hanaysheh. Actually, the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature (APN) decided to salute the soul of the martyr who unified all Palestinians and humans, through launching a campaign under the heading “Your tree protects them” which perpetuates the program of “A million trees” in Palestine.

On this campaign, the chairwoman of the board of directors Eng. Razan Zuayter expressed gratitude to the donors: “Your trees will be deeply rooted in the land to tell the story of the martyr Shireen and all the martyrs who irrigated the soil with their blood, and she will remain a testament to the steadfastness and heroism of our people, and she will be the first to receive the returnees.”

It may be mentioned that the Million Tree Campaign program succeeded since its launching in 2001, to plant around 2.6 million trees in all our occupied territories, on an area of 131996 dunums, for the benefit of 30123 farmers, supporting 221327 persons. Indeed, the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature (APN) will persevere until the target of 3 million trees is reached, which is the number of trees uprooted by the Zionist enemy in Palestine.
