APN Contributed Towards the Cultivation of 1000 Trees in the Village of Jibat el-Theeb, where Residents Regained Ownership of their Land after 13 Years

As part of the program of planting one million trees in Palestine, APN decided to respond to a call made by the families of Jibat el-Theeb in Bethlehem.

They will cultivate 1000 fruit trees during the next month in the territory that was regained on the 10th of September in 2013 after owners were prevented from entering it for 13 years. The story of Jibat el-Theeb is about resilience that began with the Second Intifada in 2000, when occupation forces began to prevent villagers from reaching their agricultural lands.

They have been prevented from building infrastructure or renovating their homes in an attempt by the occupation to displace them from the area in favor of the expansion of settlements nearby, and the control of archaeological sites. In spite of all these circumstances, the people of the village embodied this new tale of triumph when they persisted in their struggle within the courts of the occupation forces to restore their land which was confiscated 13 years ago.

In order to enhance the resilience of the villagers and save their livelihood, APN collaborated with its partners, the Palestinian Agricultural Farmers Union and the Welfare Association, to distribute to the village 1000 fruitful seedlings within "the Seeds of the Nation" project and worked on the implementation of a study of the needs of the village in order to try to provide the required support to it whenever possible.APN was founded in 2003 as a non -profit organization concerned with the affairs of environmental protection and natural resources in Jordan and other Arab countries in light of the challenges facing the environment and increasing risks as a result of conflicts, wars, and occupations  in particular. One of APN’s most important programs is the Green Caravan which aims to cultivate marginal areas in Jordan, and to create community awareness of the importance of caring for trees.

The project plants nearly 1,500 seedlings per year with the aims of contributing to the fight against desertification protect food security in Jordan, and finding a source of income and supply of food through the cultivation of fruit trees. There is also the One Million Trees program which aims to rehabilitate and sustain natural resources in Palestine through re- planting trees and digging wells. The planting of the first one million trees was complete in the month of April in 2008.

After the success of the first campaign, and in that same year, APN launched the second million tree campaign under the slogan "uproot one tree...we plant ten”.  In collaboration with our partners, we were able to plant more than 600,000 trees at a rate of 100,000 trees every year.  Last year APN planted 139.349 trees of olive and fruits of all kinds in many areas in Palestine.
