In collaboration with the Greater Amman Municipality and the support of Standard Chartered Bank, on Saturday 20 September 2014, APN cultivated 500 olive trees in the garden of Khalid ibn al-Walid in the south of Marka in Amman to enhance food security for the people of the region.

150 employees of the Standard Chartered Bank volunteered to assist with the project that supported residents of Marka. This was coordinated by Ms. Razan Hindawi, Director of the department of the bank. The area of Khalid ibn al-Walid contains a number of villages inhabited by more than 25 thousand citizens, many of whom are suffering from poverty and lack of services such as sanitation and electricity. It was agreed with the Greater Amman Municipality to allocate a piece of land for a garden in which to plant 500 olive trees.

Its produce is allocated to the population adjacent to the park.On this occasion, Zuaiter stated "This project is a continuation of the efforts to promote cooperation between several sectors to protect natural resources and enhance food security in Jordan.

It is through these events that we find cooperation between civil society organizations and the public sector represented by the Amman Municipality and the private sector represented by Standard Chartered Bank, the official sponsor of the event. APN believes that the protection of the environment and nature is a collective effort that must be shared by all sectors."

On this occasion, Mr. Ahmad Abu Eida, Regional Director of Standard Chartered Bank said "This initiative is based on the principle of social responsibility at Standard Chartered Bank. We recognize the importance of managing our environment so we decided to get involved in a campaign to support food security by planting trees as a contribution to increase green areas in Jordan and to fight desertification and drought. We also managed to increase the awareness of our employees and their families about environmental issues. "  This activity is part of the Green Caravan program, which APN began in 2003, where projects across Jordan contribute towards increasing green areas, especially in marginalized areas. This goes alongside APN’s forestation projects in areas such as Karak, Berrin, Rusaifa, Tafila, el-Halabat, Sweileh and Madaba.  more photos:
