APN called for greater attention to smallholders’ needs, urging that their voices be heard in international platforms to ensure their active participation in developing policies that protect their local food systems. This appeal was made during APN’s participation in the Farmers Major Group Meeting, one of the Major Groups and Stakeholders (MGoS), accredited by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

During the meeting, APN rejected agricultural models that commercialise farming to serve monopolistic markets and large multinational corporations, particularly those based on monocultural systems. Instead, APN advocated for supporting local agricultural systems that ensure the peoples’ food sovereignty.
