APN | 4000 Trees to be Planted in the Memory of Shireen Abu Akleh

In the memory of Shireen Abu Akleh. The Arab Group for the Protection of Nature launches a campaign to plant 4000 trees all over Palestine.

People in the occupied territories of Palestine have responded to the invitation of the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature, to participate in the first event to distribute and plant the first 1,500 trees out of 4,000 trees, in the memory of the heroic journalist Sherine Abu Akleh, and all the other martyred heroes of Palestine.

In Beit Hanina - occupied Jerusalem, on Saturday morning, May 21st, 2022, In cooperation with the municipality of Beit Hanina, and the Rural Renaissance Association.

The event, which followed the association’s announcement of the “Your Tree Protects Them” campaign, comes as an expression of its continued support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in the face of the Israeli killing machine.

According to the Director-General of APN, Mariam Al Jaa'jaa "This is not the first time that our people and friends from all over the world have interacted with our activities; The "Million Trees Campaign" program launched by APN in 2001 succeeded in planting over 2.6 million trees throughout the occupied Palestinian territories, on an area of ​​131,996 dunams, for the benefit of 30,123 farmers, supporting 221,327 people.

Our compatriots of all ages and governorates flocked to Beit Hanina, the first station, to plant trees amid a large media presence, with the participation of Tony Abu Akleh, brother of Sherine, with a special presence for the head of the Roman Catholic Monastery, Father Abdullah July, who comes from Ramallah governorate.

Meanwhile, arrangements are underway to complete the series of activities for the "Your Tree Protects Them" campaign in locations including the occupied West Bank (Jenin, Bethlehem) and Gaza (the central region, Rafah), with the participation of the largest number of our people, local officials, farmers, and their families.

Regarding the selection of Beit Hanina as a starting point for implementing the campaign, Al-Jaa'jaa confirmed that the spirit of the Journalist Shireen who was able to emphasize the unity of the Palestinian land, and added, "If Beit Hanina was in occupied Jerusalem, the place where Shireeen grew up, but we wanted to complete what we started within the association in support of the steadfastness of the people of Palestine in Their lands, especially since the apartheid wall split the town in half, confiscating more than 30% of its lands to establish 4 settlements, and constantly pumping wastewater from the settlements onto farmers’ lands.” Al-Jaa'jaa also pointed to the danger of the Israeli barbed wire, which is crawling and devouring the lands of Jerusalemites silently in the area to establish the so-called "Jerusalem National Park".
