The Women’s Program Center in Al-Baqa’a refugee camp hosted a consultative meeting bringing together members of the local community and APN General Manager to establish a joint action plan aimed at promoting community agriculture and achieving food sovereignty within the camp.

The meeting was attended by members of the local committee, the center’s director, women from the local community, as well as youth, recent graduates, and students, in addition to members of the Camp Improvement Committee.

The session included an interactive discussion on how to transform unused plots and rooftops into productive spaces, and how to organize hands-on training workshops for those interested in home gardening.

Youth were a central part of the discussion, with plans to hold awareness sessions and seminars specifically targeting them to promote the concept of food sovereignty and connect them with ideas around self-sufficiency. A small coordination committee was also formed from among the attendees to liaise with the organization and follow up on implementation.

Participants did not overlook the challenges, such as the limited available space, and collectively emphasized the importance of community awareness and exploring creative solutions like vertical farming.
