Arab Group for the Protection of Nature … 10 Years of Achievements

APN celebrated its 10th anniversary on the 25th of July at the Landmark Hotel with more than a hundred of its volunteers, and there was a review of the group’s achievements from the past 10 years. Eng. Razan Zuayter, President of APN, welcomed the attendees in her speech, and on behalf of APN, she thanked the volunteers who have contributed to these achievements. She also expressed her gratitude to the media who have supported APN's activities since it was founded. Board members and the staff presented the campaigns that APN has been working on.

APN participates in the International Civil Society Mechanism Annual Forum 2013

On the 5th-6th of October 2013 more than 240 participants from civil society, representing more than 175 countries from all over the world met at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome to attend the International Civil Society Mechanism (CSM) Forum 2013.

Participation in the Committee on World Food Security meeting

On July 17, APN participated through board member Rami Barhoush in the Committee on World Food Security meeting that was organized at the FAO head quarters in Rome. APN was one of the eight non-governmental organizations representing the International Civil Society Mechanism on Food Security.  The proposed principles for the development of a monitoring mechanism on the work and achievements of the CFS was discussed, and after presenting the proposals from all the participants, there was a voting on principles for the control mechanisms of the commission's work.

Participation in an open- ended working group meeting for CFS in Rome

APN was represented by activist Mariam Al-Jaajaa in an open meeting for the Committee on World Food Security in Protracted Crisis in July 8 in Rome. The meeting was attended by representatives of FAO member countries, United Nations, International organizations, and International Civil Society Mechanism.

Asian United Front on Food Sovereignty

APN's president and the coordinator of the Arab Network for Food Sovereignty were invited to participate in the formation of a united Asian front of the civil society on issues of agriculture, food security, sovereignty and resources. It was held in Negombo City in Sri-Lanka in the period between the 20th and -23rd of August in 2013.

Update of the Sustainable Development Initiative for the Arab Region

In August 25, 2013 Razan Zuayter, President of APN, joined a group of experts who were invited by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA),the United Nations Program for the Environment, and the Arab League to discuss the update of the Sustainable Development Initiative for the Arab Region.  Zuayter said that it is important to have a regional framework that not only does cooperation and coordination but also build a unified strategy for achieving Arab food security.

Signing a new agreement to plant 20 thousand fruitful seedlings in Palestine

Within the second campaign of planting one million trees in Palestine, APN signed on August 18 an agreement with the Welfare Association and the Union of Palestinian Farmers associations to grow nearly 20 thousand fruitful seedlings  in Nablus, Bethlehem, Jenin, Hebron and Tulkarem, in order to support Palestinian farmers and secure a source of livelihood for more than 500 families, where it is scheduled for the project to cover approximately 1070 acres, and will provide about 1,200 temporary jobs.

Participation in a meeting on Jordanian Television

On August 14, the Jordanian TV show Yawm Jadeed presented by Samar Gharaibeh hosted two APN volunteers, Farah Kaddoura and Ahmed Gharabli. The volunteers presented a brief about the group’s projects and activities that thrive toward protecting the environment in Jordan and Palestine, and a glimpse of its achievements over the past 10 years in Jordan and Palestine and at an international level.

Participation in the activity "Sahritna Market"

On July 18 in Jabal Al-lweibdeh, APN participated in Sahritna market, an activity organized by the King Hussein Training Center as an initiative to integrate the disabled. Profits went to the King Hussein Center.

The first and second meeting of the Jordanian Environmental NGO's Federation (JEFN)

APN hosted the first and second meeting for JEFN, which was held from 18-20 July to discuss a number of topics and coordinate with other environmental associations to unite efforts.Eng. Razan Zuayter has confirmed the need to have a clear vision and perspective towards environmental issues in Jordan. To achieve this, she called for the need to demand of specialists to prepare a scientific paper for each subject to facilitate the search process and to reach common perspective.

Demencia Music Festival donates amount of money for the benefit of the Million Tree Campaign

On August 30, a group of youth in coordination with the student Kareem Kort organized the Demencia Music Festival in which the international artist Aya Marar had a performance along with the group of Jordanian DJs. The ceremony was attended by more than 450 people in the Bisharat Golf Club. Festival organizers chose APN to be the organization that will be supported by the concert, in support of the second Million Tree Campaign carried out with its partners in Palestine. APN introduced its products during the festival through the volunteers Ghazi Maraqa and Lamis Abu Aziza.
