Rehabilitation of Gaza Greenhouses

With a donation provided by the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature, the Union of the Agricultural Work Committees (AUWC) carried out the rehabilitation and planting of agricultural greenhouses in Gaza Strip hit by Israeli bombardments.

A total of 38 greenhouses were rehabilitated and planted with tomato, cucumber and green pepper seedlings after they had sustained devastating damage from Israeli attacks and land encroachment adjacent to the Green line. The greenhouses belong to poor families who were not able to purchase the seedlings needed to replenish them.

The campaign assisted 38 male and female farmers in Al Braij (6 farmers), Beit Hanoun (10) and Beit Lahya (22).

Project Effects

The donation granted by APN contributed to saving 125 dunums of agricultural land from aridification through the planting of fruit and vegetable seedlings. The rehabilitation included reinstallation and repair of irrigation networks destroyed during recurrent Israeli incursions on agricultural lands that  provide income to 20 Palestinian families as their sole livelihood.

This collaboration between APN and AUWC, in line with APN's mission, considers overstrained farmers in Palestine one of its target categories and seeks to mitigate the suffering they endure under occupation.
