The IPC 2009 annual Conference

The IPC 2009 annual Conference agrees, upon demands from APN, to issue a statement condemning the genocide committed by Israel against humanity and environment in Palestine

APN made an appeal to the IPC annual conference held in Rome in 2009 to issue a statement condemning Israel's crimes of genocide against the people and the environment during its war on Gaza in January 2008. Thirty civil society organizations (CSOs) responded to the appeal at the conference representing millions of farmers and food producers in the world.  The statement was signed by delegates representing CSOs, NGOs, fisherfolk and farmers' movements as well as human rights activists.

The statement included demands for the following:

  • Immediate ceasefire.
  • Ending all kinds of blockades and restrictions imposed on the movement of the population in addition to offering help to the people in Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
  • Asserting the right of Palestinians to food sovereignty.
  • Boycotting Israel and imposing punitive measures against it.
  • Launching a campaign urging the United Nations to demand compensation for the immense damage inflicted by Israel similar to compensation paid following the war on Kuwait in 1990.
  • Launching a court action against Israeli leaders for their responsibility for the crimes committed against innocent people in Gaza.
  • Organizing a solidarity campaign focusing on damage inflicted on the lives of the Palestinian people.
