In August 25, 2013 Razan Zuayter, President of APN, joined a group of experts who were invited by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the United Nations Program for the Environment, and the Arab League to discuss the update of the Sustainable Development Initiative for the Arab Region.

Zuayter said that it is important to have a regional framework that not only does cooperation and coordination but also build a unified strategy for achieving Arab food security.

She also stressed the need to discuss basic principles to rely on such as social justice and sovereignty over resources and the involvement of civil society in the development, implementation and monitoring, and she confirmed that without it, the initiative will remain theoretical.
