مريم الجعجع في نيويورك: المجتمع الدولي فشل في الاستجابة للانذارات المبكرة

APN Manager Mariam Al Jaajaa was nominated to speak on behalf of global civil society in a side session on food insecurity in times of crises and conflict at the High Level Political Forum at the UN House in New York on the 12th of July, 2017.The event was organized by the UN Committee on World Food Security as four countries - Somalia, Yemen, South Sudan and Nigeria- are on the brink of famine.

In her speech, Al jaajaa stressed on the need to address root causes that lead to food insecurity and famine in times of wars and called for their treatment as violations of International Humanitarian Law (i.e law of war). She explained that famines do not appear suddenly but take months or years to form, which means that the international community failed to respond to early warning systems.

APN continues its work within the "Food Sovereignty Programme" to influence policy on agriculture, food security and the environment at the national, regional and global level.
