Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)

With a continuous debate on the impacts of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), APN worked to raise awareness on the issue along with CSOs and other concerned parties.

  • In 2014, a delegation from APN visited Monsanto test fields in the Jordan Valley to learn more about their work and ensure the compliance with the Jordanian Biological Safety Law and the protection of local seeds
  • In 2008, APN joined the National Biosafety Committee to look at the dangers of GMOs, trade laws on the import and use of GMOs and  the implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety

  • In 2005, APN held an international seminar held in Amman to draw attention to the risks and impacts of GMOs and the need to raise awareness on their impact
  • In 2005, APN, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health – Primary Medical Care Department, gave a lecture about “Genetically Modified Organisms, Risks and Impacts”
