Arab Network for Food Sovereignty

The Arab Network for Food Sovereignty, Uniting Regional Efforts

APN, in conjunction with Arab partners launched the Arab Network for Food Sovereignty as one of the voluntary, non-profit civil society organizations sharing the same priorities and concerns and seeking to promote food sovereignty principles and practices in the Arab countries. The Network aims to enable Arab communities to have decent and sustainable livelihoods, particularly underprivileged groups by empowering them to identify obstacles and ways to achieve sovereignty of food and natural resources.

Membership

The Network groups members from Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Mauritania and Morocco.

Anticipated Outcomes

  • Laying down the foundation for an Arab institutional policy action incorporating food concepts, strategies and practices. 
  • Leading to changes in the policies, strategies and interventions of the main actors concerned with the issue of Arab food security.
  • Collecting and disseminating information on food security using a variety of means and techniques.
  • Preparation and dissemination of information and applied studies and researches to facilitate achievement of the goals of the Network and its members.
  • Providing a program for rapid intervention regarding aid during crises and emergency situations.
  • Enhancing the process of developing the capacities of human resources by working to set up a special program to raise efficiency of Arab cadres in agriculture.
  • Building pan-Arab and regional relations of cooperation and partnerships to play a more active role in international unions and organizations.
  •  Engaging rural women in the planning and implementation of agricultural programs and projects.
  • Developing a program of activities to encourage rural youth initiatives relating to the institualization of the methodology of sovereignty over Arab food and its practices.
