In a joint campaign with the Conference for Palestinians Abroad, APN successfully collaborated with Arab ambassadors, African civil society organizations and a group of Arab and Islamic governments to thwart the Israeli-African Summit that was set to take place in Togo on the 23rd of October, 2017.

The campaign was a two month-long campaign during the months of August and September. Ms. Razan Zuayter contacted Mr. Naeem Jeenah, President of the Afro-Middle East Center in South Africa to urgently mobilize against the Summit. Mr. Jeenah responded with immediately calling for a conference titled “Africa-Israeli Summit: Benefit or Burden?” in Pretoria that was attended by a group of parliamentarians, diplomats and state representatives. APN board members Ms. Zuayter and Mr. Hassan Al Jaajaa each gave a speech about the Palestinian and Lebanese stance against the Summit. During the conference, Mr. Mandla Mandela asserted his continuation to his grandfather, the late Nelson Mandela’s promise of eternally supporting the Palestinian cause.

APN also managed to hold several meetings, including one with the consultant to the South African Foreign Minister, Mr. Mohammad Dangour, about future collaboration. Other meetings were held in Johannesburg with the great leader and Chairperson Mr. Sisa Njikelana, the South African Ambassadors to Palestine, Turkey, Iraq, Sudan and South Sudan, and the two journalists Morton and Muhsen Khan. A radio interview was scheduled with The Voice of Cape and Islam Media in Cape Town. Also, Zuayter and Al Jaajaa had a press interview with the journalist Mr. Sandile Binjidi and an interview with a member of the Al Quds Foundation South Africa, Mr. Younis Ali.

In addition, Zuayer and Al Jaajaa participated in a BDS meeting at the University of Cape Town, where they gave two interventions about the academic boycott between university and Israeli academic institutions. Ms. Zuayter, along with activist Ola Abed, had also organized meetings with the Iranian, Lebanese and Tunisian ambassadors to Jordan about the need to push for the thwarting of the Summit, and meetings with members of the Parliament, Ms. Hayat Maseemi and Mr. Mansour Murad.
