APN participated at the coordinating committee meeting of the International Civil Society Mechanism on the 3-4th of October at the headquarters of the Food and Agricultural Organization. The committee consisted of 41 people representing 11 different sectors and 17 regions.

APN President Razan Zuayter was the representative of West Asia. The coordinating committee organizes the participation of the global civil society in the work streams of the Committee on World Food Sovereignty (CFS).

The meeting assessed the work and achievements of the Civil Society Mechanism in addition to the work of the advisory group and the coordinating committee. The meeting resulted in a short and long-term action plan to develop the mechanism.Zuayter said that the meeting resulted in a decision to evaluate the work of the International Civil Society Mechanism in its most recent record.

In an effort to reduce the dominance of European participants in the meeting, Zuayter asked the representative of a European organization to refrain from describing her organization as the ‘mother of all’ by quoting a Lebanese poet who said Your children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. She asked European participants to allow communities in the world to reach the stage of maturity and independence in order to achieve genuine partnership with the international civil society.
